Three high school seniors have signed National Letters of Intent to play golf for the University of Wisconsin men's team beginning in the fall of 2009. Head coach Jim Schuman announced on Wednesday that Anthony Aicher, Sam Frank and Michael Sorenson have all signed with the Badgers.
'Hands down, they are the top three seniors in the state,' Coach Schuman said. 'They are all hard-working and very intelligent young men. '
Coach Schuman also said that the three have experience that will help them contribute to the team right away.
'These players not only have had great success in the state, but they have competed at an extremely high level on the national level as well,' he said. 'We look for all of them to immediately have a positive impact on the program on and off the golf course.'
Anthony Aicher is a Wausau, Wis., native and attends Wausau East High School. Named first-team all-state in 2007 and 2008, Aicher recently finished second at the National Golfweek Invitational. On the national level, Aicher has had numerous top-10 finishes in events.
An Oconomowoc, Wis., native, Sam Frank will join the Badgers after his time at Kettle Moraine High School. He received multiple accolades for his play, including being named the 2008 Wisconsin PGA Junior Player of the Year. He was also named the 2008 Wisconsin High School Co-player of the Year along with former teammate and current Badger Brady Keegan. In 2007, Frank was named first-team all-state.
Michael Sorenson is from Hartland, Wis., and attends Arrowhead High School. Named first-team all-state in 2008, Sorenson won two national tournaments over this past summer. He also qualified for both the U.S. Junior and U.S. Amateur this past summer.
