
Women's Track Wins Six Events at Marquette

Led by six event champions, the Wisconsin women's track and field team conquered the weather and its competition at the Marquette Twilight on Saturday in Milwaukee. Despite wind gusts over seven miles per hour, the Badgers overcame some tough conditions during the meet.
Junior Julia Benson was a double-event winner, taking both hurdle races. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.27 seconds and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.13.
The Badgers swept the sprints, taking the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes. Junior Alexis Beecham won the 100-meter dash in 12.38 while junior Caitlin Dodge took the 200 meters in 25.86. Senior Kaitlyn Marsolek claimed the 400 meters in 59.54. The UW swept the top-two places in the 200 meters and the top-four places in the 400 meters. Freshman Akaila Cabell was the runner-up in the 200 meters in 26.07 while junior Nicole Slaby finished second in the 400 meters in 59.90. Dodge placed third in the 400 in 1:01.04 while Cabell took fourth in 1:01.36.
Wisconsin's final event winner came in the discus, where senior Kayla Schultz threw 157 feet, seven inches. Schultz also placed second in the shot put at 47-7 '.
Other runners up were LaQuita Brazil in the triple jump (38-10 '), Carrie Woltman in the high jump (5-3) and Karlye Wolff in the 3000-meter steeplechase (11:30.60). Brazil also placed third in the long jump at 17-7 ' while Benson finished fourth at 16-11 '
Third-place finishers were Lindsey Kong in the 1500 meters (5:06.96) and Hilly Mathews in the pole vault (11-1 ').
