Softball Announces New Positions on Staff
June 05, 2008 | Softball
Head coach Chandelle Schulte has announced the hiring of Roanna Brazier to the softball coaching staff and has promoted assistant coach Julie Wright to the position of Associate Head Coach. Brazier will begin her duties on June 9 as the team's pitching and catching coach, director of camps and will assist with recruiting.
'I am very pleased to have Roanna joining our staff,' said Schulte. 'She has a lot of experience coaching at the collegiate level and we are confident that she will do a great job sharing her knowledge of the game with our student-athletes. '
Brazier comes to Wisconsin after spending the last four years as the lead instructor of the Worth Club K softball camp just outside of Nashville, Tenn. Previously, Brazier was the head coach at Ohio University from 1996-2005 where 15 of her players were named All-Conference Mid-American and three were named All-Region performers.
Prior to her head coaching position, Brazier spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Ohio University and one year as an assistant coach at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan. Brazier also coached the 2003 USA All-Star Team that competed in the Netherlands helping the Dutch National Team prepare for the 2004 Olympic Games.
Brazier was a four-year letterwinner at the University of Kansas where she earned her bachelor of science in education degree. She was named to the All-Midwest Regional team in 1990 and was a three-time All-Big 12 selection. Roanna also played on the 1993 gold medal winning U.S. Olympic Sports Festival team and spent time with the St. Louis Classics of the Women's Major ASA.
Brazier and current assistant Julie Wright have a lot of ties in the softball ranks. Wright, who will enter her third year at Wisconsin and first as associate head coach spent five seasons at Brazier's alma mater, Kansas, and played at Ohio University where Brazier coached.
'Wright has been a vital part of our staff and I couldn't be happier to promote her to associate head coach,' said Schulte. 'Wright has shown unparalleled commitment to both Wisconsin and the softball program in her short time here that it only felt right to promote her.'
