Softball, canoeing and coaching
July 16, 2008 | Softball
UWBadgers.com talked to a few of the Badger softball players to see what they have been up to during the summer months. Some have been living in Madison, while others have returned to their hometowns. Some are playing softball, some are coaching softball and some are coaching other sports altogether. Some are working out on campus, while others are enjoying their summer relaxing.
Today we visit with Dana Rasmussen, a sophomore from right here in Madison. Last season, Rasmussen saw action in 27 games, scored six runs and was honored as UW's Spirit Award winner.
Rasmussen is spending her summer in Madison and boy has she been busy. From playing with two different softball teams to working at Target to spending time instructing children through the Madison School-Community Recreation department, Rasmussen doesn't have a lot of time off.
'I'm playing with a team in Middleton with some high school teammates and also play on a tournament team that took second at the Badger State Games and more recently took third at a tournament in Joliet, Ill.,' said Rasmussen.
Rasmussen enjoys keeping up with softball, while playing with and against old teammates and current opponents from around the area. After playing three sports in high school (volleyball, basketball and obviously softball), you can tell Rasmussen likes to be outdoors and active. Along with playing softball, Rasmussen spends the afternoons with area children through MSCR doing all sorts of sports and activities.
'I love being outside and working with the kids,' said Rasmussen. 'We have the kids participate in a ton of different activities every week, including canoeing every Friday. It's a great way to spend the summer outside and help others to enjoy their summer.'
Like a lot of her teammates, Rasmussen is enjoying her summer, but is anxious to get back to softball this fall.
'After spending so much time together every day and with all the travel we do as a team, it is really different when everyone is not all together,' said Rasmussen. 'You become more than just a team, you are a family, and not being around them all summer is going to make this fall that much more fun.'
Check back later for another update on one of the Wisconsin softball players.
