Former Badger golfer Jon Turcott shot a 1-under par 69 Saturday in the third round of the U.S. Bank Championship at Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee. That puts Turcott at 3-under for the tournament and in a tie for 57th place.
For the second consecutive day, Turcott started on the back nine. He opened the round with six straight pars before a birdie on No. 16 (Turcott's seventh hole of the day). Turcott gave the shot back on No. 17 but birdied No. 18 for the second time in three days to make the turn at 3-under for the tournament.
Turcott dropped back to -2 after a bogey on No. 4, his third straight bogey on that hole during the tournament. Two holes later, on No. 6, Turcott carded a birdie four to get back to 3-under par. He then parred the final three holes. Turcott's round of 69 was better than both his playing partners, D.J. Trahan (70) and Brad Adamonis (71).
At 3-under for the tournament, Turcott is tied with, among others, former major winners Corey Pavin and Bob Tway. Australians Gavin Coles and Nick Flanagan share the lead heading into the final round at 11-under par. Four golfers are tied for third, one stroke back.
In Sunday's final round, Turcott will tee off on No. 10 at 10:25 a.m. CT. His playing partners will be Tommy Armour III, currently ranked 36th on the PGA Tour money list, and Will MacKenzie.
