
Levy Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Senior captain athid=5631&deptid=111"> --> DeAndre Levy was honored by the Big Ten as its Defensive Player of the Week after his performance in Wisconsin's 13-10 win over Fresno State. The linebacker from Milwaukee, Wis. had nine tackles, four of them for loss, a QB sack, a pass breakup and an interception to lead the Badger defense as they held nationally-ranked Fresno State in only 10 points.
Levy's first quarter interception led to the Badgers' lone touchdown and his fourth-quarter sack helped seal the game as the Bulldogs were forced to punt the ball with just under two minutes to play. UW then proceeded to gain a first down after a tough run from FB athid=5185&deptid=111"> --> Bill Rentmeester and run the clock out capping off the win.
The award was the first for Wisconsin's defense since DE athid=5639&deptid=111"> --> Matt Shaughnessy won the award on Nov. 12, 2007 and the second of Levy 's career. Levy's first accolade came on Oct. 29, 2007.
Michigan State RB Javon Ringer was named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and Iowa PR Andy Brodell was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. Click here for the complete Big Ten release.
