Softball releases 2009 schedule

The Wisconsin softball team announced its 2009 schedule Wednesday. The Badgers open the season on Feb. 6 in Palm Springs, Calif. at the Cathedral City Kickoff.
'I'm excited with our schedule,' said head coach staffid=601"> --> Chandelle Schulte . 'We will have the chance to play a lot of talented teams during the spring tournament schedule and should be able to get a lot of games under our belt before the Big Ten season opens up.'
Wisconsin will spend its first two months on the road (the snow isn't great for softball) in California, Alabama, New Mexico, Illinois, Indiana and Hawaii. UW's home opener is set for Mar. 25 against North Dakota and is the first of 13 home games scheduled for 2009. In addition to North Dakota, the Badgers will host Green Bay, Illinois, Northern Iowa, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Minnesota, Northern Illinois and Northwestern.
Wisconsin closes out the regular season with a Friday-Saturday matchup against Northwestern at Goodman Diamond .
