MADISON, Wis. - Laurie Nosbusch’s game-tying goal pushed the Badgers to their seventh overtime this season as UW came from behind for a 3-3 draw against Penn State. Wisconsin (7-5-4, 3-1-3 Big Ten) now sits in sole possession of second place, one point behind Penn State (8-5-2, 4-1-1 Big Ten) and Ohio State in the Big Ten standings.

The tie snapped the Badgers five-game losing streak against Wilkins’ former Nittany Lions, with their last tie on November 6, 2003. The Badgers are now 2-1-4 in overtime this season, tying the program’s most overtime games in a season.

“We really had a good mentality out there today. We didn’t give up and that really showed the maturity of the team,” said head coach Paula Wilkins after the game. “Every day I see the potential for this team and the program."

As the two teams battled, Penn State was able to put the first points on the board midway through the first half.

In the 26th minute of play Christine Nairn fed the ball to Danielle Toney who was able to beat UW’s Michele Dalton from about 20 yards out to take the 1-0 lead.

Paige Adams knotted the game in the 31st minute with her first collegiate goal. Laurie Nosbusch passed the ball out to Adams who shot the ball from the far corner off the post to tie the game.

After a Wisconsin foul, Katie Schoepfer lined a shot but Dalton came up with the save to preserve the tie. On the next play, after a throw-in at the 42nd minute, Schoepfer corralled the ball and got a shot from 30 yards out to give Penn State the 2-1 advantage at the half.

The second half began as a defensive battle with only five total shots being made by the two teams combined. As the clock wound down, Penn State pushed its lead in the 72nd minute of play.

Nairn took a corner kick for the Nittany Lions and was able to bend it in for the goal stretching their lead to two.

Wisconsin did not give up making two consecutive goals to take the game into overtime. A Penn State handball inside the box at the 74th minute set the Badgers up for a penalty kick. Erin Jacobson took the pkmaking her second goal of the season.

The goal proved to be a momentum changer as the Badgers continued their comeback in the 81st minute of play. Monica Lam-Feist and Adams set up Nosbusch for her sixth goal of the season. Lam-Feist served the ball from outside the box and Nosbusch was able to head the ball in for the equalizer.

Through two overtimes neither team could find the back of the net to claim a win. Dalton made four big saves in the two overtimes to settle for a 3-3 tie. The game broke the Nittany Lion’s four-game winning streak and was their first tie in Big Ten play.

Penn State edged Wisconsin in shots, 13-12, with Dalton making seven saves for the Badgers.

Prior to the game Wisconsin honored its four seniors, Stephanie Krombach, Ashley Hedges, Krista Liskevych, and Whitney Owusu. The Badgers finish out their regular season on the road heading to Michigan State on Friday, Oct. 23, and Michigan on Sunday, Oct. 25.
