
Trio of Badgers honored as scholar-athletes

MADISON, Wis. -- Two former Badgers and one current student-athlete have been honored as girls got game NFCA Scholar-Athletes for the 2009 season, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced.
Junior Kristyn Hansen and former players Theresa Boruta and Leah Vanevenhoven have been recognized. Award winners had to maintain a 3.5 grade-point-average for the year.
Hansen made nine appearances, including one start, last season as a pitcher for the Badgers. She factored in only one decision in her 14.2 innings of work. She struck out 13 batters she faced, while walking just three.
Boruta finished third on the team with a .237 batting average as a senior last year. Starting all 55 games, Boruta drove in seven runs, stole 11 bases and led the team with 14 sacrifices.
Vanevenhoven led the pitching staff with a 3.32 earned run average in 166.2 innings of work. She struck out 124 batters and threw one shutout on the year.
