The Badgers had an up and down season, but with a young core of players, grew individually and as a whole throughout the 2009 season. The team finished with a 15-40 record overall and a 3-17 mark in the Big Ten and was able to play some of the nation 's top teams at some of the best venues in college softball.

UW spent its first six weeks on the road playing in tournaments in California, Alabama, New Mexico, Illinois and Hawaii. The team really bonded on the trips and was able to test its game against 11 of the top-ranked teams in the country, including #1-ranked Alabama and #9 Michigan, both of whom are set to play in the 2009 College World Series .
After the strenuous, but fun tournament season, the Badgers opened up Big Ten play in Purdue on Mar. 21-22 before opening Goodman Diamond in Madison on Mar. 25. Highlighted by a 2-1 walk-off win over border rival Minnesota, athid=6648&deptid=126"> --> Jen Kreuger's .323 batting average and 18 stolen bases, and the pitching of athid=6114&deptid=126"> --> Letty Olivarez and athid=5725&deptid=126"> --> Leah Vanevenhoven , the Badgers impressed fans of the Cardinal and White throughout the spring in Wisconsin with a number of thrilling games.
Wisconsin bid farewell to five seniors; athid=5728&deptid=126"> --> Theresa Boruta , athid=5241&deptid=126"> --> Alexis Garcia , athid=5726&deptid=126"> --> Valyncia Raphael , athid=5725&deptid=126"> --> Leah Vanevenhoven and athid=6735&deptid=126"> --> Nichole Whaley on May 9, but welcome a collection of talented players to sportid=126&storyid=17090"> --> next year's squad which Badger fans should be excited for.
