Wisconsin (15-39, 3-16 Big Ten) threatened first as it loaded the bases in the first inning but was unable to score any runs. Northwestern (30-13, 13-6 Big Ten) fought back in the third inning scoring three runs. Jordan Wheeler started the inning off singling to left field with Robin Thompson moving her to second on a bunt. Both runners advanced on passed ball with Tammy Williams reaching on an intentional walk. Wheeler then scored the first run of the game on a passed ball. After another intentional walk and two more passed balls, the half inning ended at 3-0.
Neither team was able to convert their hits into runs until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Badgers looked to rally. Shortstop Katie Soderberg got on base after walking and advanced to third on a double by Ashley Hanewich. Soderberg then scored on a passed ball for UW's only run of the game. The rally stopped there as the Wildcats took the 3-1 win over the Badgers.
Leah Vanevenhoven pitched a complete game striking out six while allowing three runs on five hits.
