Although both teams were able to get hits, neither was able to convert its hits into runs until the seventh inning. Northwestern (31-13, 14-6 Big Ten) had left eight runners on base and Wisconsin had seven runners left on base going into the seventh inning.
Pinch hitter Emily Haug lead off the seventh inning for the Wildcats by singling to left field. Kelly Quinn then came back in to run for Haug and was bunted around to second base. Tammy Williams was then intentionally walked and Adrienne Monka drove both runners in with a double to center field, giving Northwestern a 2-0 lead.
Wisconsin tried to pull off the win as they fought back in the bottom of the seventh inning. Raphael was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Jen Krueger then moved her to second as she reached on a single. Both runners moved up a base after a wild pitch was thrown, but were unable to score as the Wildcats forced a foul out and a ground out to end the game, 0-2.
Vanevenhoven pitched her final game as a Badger striking out four Wildcats in her complete game and went two-for-three at the plate.
