OSU (11-2-1, 5-0-0 Big Ten), who currently leads the Big Ten Conference, prevented the Badgers (6-4-4, 3-1-2 Big Ten) from reaching a 10-game shutout streak in the 27th minute when Tiffany Cameron crossed the ball from the right corner to the head of Caitlyn Martin. Martin one-timed a header into the upper left corner of Wisconsin's goal to take the 1-0 lead and secure the Buckeyes' sixth straight victory.
After tying Illinois, 0-0, on Oct. 10, Wisconsin extended its shutout streak to a program-record 902 minutes, which snapped the previous record set by the 1985 squad. Prior to the Buckeyes' goal on Friday night, Wisconsin senior goalkeeper Michele Dalton (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) made three crucial saves in the first 27 minutes of play to extend the Badger women's soccer program record to nearly 930 minutes without allowing a goal.
UW, who outshot the Buckeyes 11-10, found two of its best scoring opportunities in the second half from two powerful header attempts by freshman Kodee Williams (Toronto, Ontario). Both headers were taken within 10 yards of the goal line and were just inches away from finding the back of the net.
Dalton stopped seven of OSU's eight shot attempts and Rachel Middleman notched three saves for the Buckeyes.
The loss snapped the Badgers' 10-game unbeaten streak, which is tied for third best in program history.
Wisconsin wraps up the weekend at Penn State on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
The Big Ten Network intends to air the Badgers' matchup against the Nittany Lions on a tape-delay basis from University Park, Pa. The game airs at 3:30 p.m. (CT).
