MADISON, Wis. – Junior Ashley Wanland picked up her first career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor on Tuesday after helping the Wisconsin women to a 208-92 win over Iowa last weekend.
Wanland finished the meet with three NCAA ‘B’ qualifying times, the first coming as the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay, which won with a time of 1:40.76. She then swept the breaststroke competition, winning both the 100 (1:01.77) and the 200-yard (2:14.49) events, earning NCAA provisional times in each.
This marks the first weekly honor for a Wisconsin women’s swimmer this season, and it’s the first since senior Maggie Meyer on Feb. 2, 2010.
The Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team next travels to Minnesota for a Big Ten dual meet on Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.
