Team Notes
• Wisconsin scored 10 points off two Michigan State turnovers. In the last two games against the Spartans, UW has scored 31 points off MSU turnovers.
• UW forced three turnovers (two interceptions and a fumble) today, its first three-turnover game since the Indiana game on Nov. 7, 2009.
• Michigan State led the time of possession category Saturday by a 36:24 to 23:36 margin. This is the first time this season Wisconsin has not held the ball longer than its opponent.
• The Badgers scored a touchdown on their opening drive of the second half (James White 34-yard touchdown run). UW has now scored on the first drive of the second half in four of five games this season, totaling 20 points.
• Wisconsin was two-for-two on Red Zone opportunities, scoring a pair of touchdowns. The Badgers have now scored on 23 of 27 possessions inside the 20-yard line on the year with two of those failed attempts coming when UW knelt on the ball to run out the clock.
• Not counting two end of game possessions when UW knelt on the ball to kill the clock, the Badgers have posted touchdowns on their last 14 Red Zone trips (2 vs. Michigan State, 9 vs. Austin Peay, 2 vs. Arizona State and 1 vs. San Jose State).
Individual notes
• Junior CB Antonio Fenelus recorded his third career interception, and second of the season, in the first quarter. Junior CB Devin Smith recorded his third career interception and first of the season in the second quarter. Wisconsin has five interceptions against Michigan State quarterbacks in the last two games against the Spartans.
• Senior CB Niles Brinkley recorded his first career forced fumble, stripping MSU WR Keith Nichol of the ball in the second quarter. S Aaron Henry recovered the fumble, his second of the season.
• Freshman RB James White has run for six touchdowns in the last two games, including a 16-yard scamper in the second quarter today and a 34-yard run in the third quarter. White accumulated 235 all-purpose yards, including 98 yards rushing, six yards receiving and 131 yards on seven kickoff returns.
• K Philip Welch’s 49-yard field goal in the second quarter tied his season-long. He is 4-of-5 this season on field goal attempts longer than 40 yards.
• TE Jacob Pederson caught a touchdown pass for the second consecutive game.
• DE J.J. Watt recorded a career-high 10 tackles vs. Michigan State. He also posted his first sack of the season and added 2.5 tackles for loss and a pass defensed. Watt leads the Badgers with 7.0 tackles for loss on the year.
• CB Niles Brinkley registered a career-high eight tackles.
