UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Despite a close first set, the Nittany Lions topped the young Wisconsin volleyball squad for the second time this season. The Badgers (15-11, 4-11) were out-blocked by Penn State (22-4, 12-3), 12-1, in the three set loss and fell, 25-19, 26-16, 25-12.

Penn State came out on top in every stat category on Friday night with 46 kills, 43 assists, three service aces and 12 total blocks. The Badgers finished with 28 kills, 26 assists, one service ace, and one block.

Annemarie Hickey made six kills for the Badgers on the night while Mary Ording and Bailey Reshel finished with five apiece. Ording also made the lone block of the night for Wisconsin.

Janelle Gabrielsen once again led UW with a team-high 21 assists, and Kim Kumza made 11 digs, another team-high.

The Nittany Lions had three players finish with double-digit kills, including Blair Brown's match-high 14. Arielle Wilson made 11, and Deja McClendon made 10. Brown also tied with teammate Fatima Balza for a match-high five blocks on the night.

In a close 25-19 first set loss, the Badgers held their own against the ranked Nittany Lions with an impressive run late in the first set, during which Wisconsin held Penn State to set-point for three points.

The set got off to a close start with four early ties until a 5-5 score when Penn State went on a 7-1 run to extend their lead to 12-6. PSU maintained the lead throughout the rest of the set, but a 5-1 Badger run put the score at 23-16, PSU, to keep UW in the set.

Brown made a kill to put PSU at set point, but Hickey led a 3-0 run for the Badgers as they held set point. Wisconsin was not able to finish the set out as

Brown answered back with a kill to end the first set, 25-19.
Penn State used the momentum from the first set to carry them through the rest of the match taking the last two sets from Wisconsin.

The Badgers held an early 6-3 lead over PSU in the second set but the Nittany Lions were able to come back to tie it up three times. The set remained close until Penn State pulled ahead at 15-12 to go to 21-15. After a Wisconsin kill from Hickey, the Nittany Lions closed off the set with a 4-0 run to secure the 25-16 win.

The third set looked very similar to the second as the score remained tight until Penn State was able to go on a few short runs to pull ahead for a 19-10 lead. PSU finished off the match with a 5-1 run as they took the third set, 25-12.

The Badgers look to finish off their long road swing on a good note when they face Ohio State on Sunday. Match time is set for 1 p.m. (CT).
