Team Notes
• The Badgers’ 83 points is the most ever against a Big Ten team in school history (all years). It is also the most points in a game during the modern era (all games). It was the most since the Badgers defeated Marquette 85-0 on Oct. 8, 1915.
• Wisconsin’s 83 points ties as the most points scored by a Big Ten team in a conference game during the modern era. (Ohio State defeated Iowa 83-21 on Oct. 28, 1950).
• UW’s 83 points are the most by any FBS team in 2010.
• Wisconsin improved to 9-1 for the first time since 2006. It is the seventh time in school history that the Badgers have won nine of their first 10 games in a season. The other years were: 1897, 1898, 1899, 1998, 2004 and 2006.
• The Badgers have recorded at least nine wins for the fourth time in head coach Bret Bielema’s five seasons. Prior to 2006, UW won at least nine games just 10 times in 117 seasons.
• Wisconsin needs one win in its final two games to become the third team in school history to win 10 regular-season games (1998 and 2006).
• Wisconsin extended its Big Ten winning streak to five games, the longest current streak in the conference and its longest conference winning streak since it won the final seven Big Ten games of 2006.
• Wisconsin extended its home winning streak to seven games. The Badgers have won 28 straight home games against unranked opponents.
• On offense, the only three players who have started every game for the Badgers this season are QB Scott Tolzien, LT Gabe Carimi and LG John Moffitt. RB Montee Ball got his first career start today (replacing an injured John Clay) while Bill Nagy, who had started the first four games at RG, made his first career start at C (replacing an injured Peter Konz).
• For the seventh time in 10 games this season, the Badgers scored points the first time they touched the ball. Conversely, UW’s defense has allowed just two scoring drives to open the game.
• UW also scored on its opening possession of the second half, the eighth time in 10 games they have done so.
• The Badgers have forced seven turnovers in the last two games and scored points off of each of them, totaling 45 points.
• Wisconsin finished with 598 yards of total offense, which ranks 11th in school history.
• The Badgers ran for 338 yards on the day, marking the second time this season that UW has run for at least 300 yards (346 vs. Austin Peay on Sept. 25).
• Wisconsin scored on each of its 13 possessions, never punting and committing zero turnovers.
Individual Notes
• Sophomore RB Montee Ball carried the ball on 20 consecutive Wisconsin offensive plays. He finished the Purdue game with 12 straight rushes and started today’s game by taking eight consecutive handoffs.
• In his first career start, Ball went over the 100-yard mark in the first half and recorded career highs in yards (167) and touchdowns (three). It is the highest rushing total for a Badger back this season.
• After missing the Purdue game with a knee injury, freshman RB James White returned to the lineup and rushed 19 times for 144 yards and two TDs.
• This is the third time this season Wisconsin has posted a pair of 100-yard rushers. James Clay and White each topped 100 yards in games vs. Austin Peay and Minnesota.
• DE J.J. Watt recovered two fumbles today, giving him four for his career. He is the first Badger to recover two fumbles in a game since David Gilbert did so against Wofford last season.
• Watt added two tackles for loss (giving him 18.0 TFLs on the season) and two quarterback hurries. His 18.0 TFLs are tied for the ninth-best single-season total in school history.
• WR Nick Toon caught his first touchdown pass of the season and sixth of his career in the second quarter.
• TE Jake Byrne caught his first career touchdown pass, a 2-yard toss in the third quarter. Byrne entered the game with just two career catches (both in the Iowa game).
• QB Scott Tolzien finished the game 15-of-18 for 181 yards and three touchdowns, for a pass efficiency rating of 222.8.
• Tolzien now has 369 career completions, passing Tony Lowery (355) for sixth on UW’s all-time list.
• WR David Gilreath totaled 147 all-purpose yards on just six touches (three catches, two kickoff returns, one punt return).
• Gilreath now has 4,974 all-purpose yards, passing Anthony Davis (4,874) for third in UW annals.
• Freshman QB Jon Budmayr threw his first career touchdown pass, completing a 74-yard pass to Jared Abbrederis in the fourth quarter. That pass was also UW’s longest play from scrimmage since an 80-yard pass from Tolzien to Isaac Anderson on the first offensive play of the 2009 season (Sept. 5, vs. Northern Illinois).
• Junior QB Nate Tice saw his first action as a Badger, scoring his first career touchdown on a 17-yard run.
• Junior Aaron Henry return an interception 37 yards for a touchdown. That was Henry’s second-career INT and his first career touchdown. This is also the second-consecutive week that UW scored on an interception return (Fenelus 36-yard return at Purdue, Nov. 6).
• K Philip Welch scored 17 points in the game (11 extra points, two field goals), giving him 286 career points. He moved past Billy Marek and Todd Gregoire (278) and moved into third in UW history. His also tied Rich Thompson and Taylor Mehlhaff for second in Wisconsin annals with 50 career field goals.
