MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Badgers scored four goals in the second period and junior Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) recorded three points, but No. 1 Wisconsin (8-1-0, 6-1-0 WCHA) fell to No. 8 Minnesota (6-4-0, 3-4-0 WCHA), 7-5, Friday night.
Eight Badgers earned a point in the team's first road game of the year, with three players recording multi-point games. Knight led the Badgers, registering one goal and two assists. Senior Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) and junior Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, Ontario) each earned two points on the night with two goals and one goal and one assist, respectively.

"I thought we played well," head coach Mark Johnson said. "In some areas, I'd say we played our best game of the year. We didn't get rewarded with a victory, but we just have to make sure we don't give up as many goals as we did today. We can't give up seven goals if we're going to give ourselves a chance to win.
"Every time we got ourselves within distance to really make a game of it, they responded with a goal. It's a frustrating night in regards to that, but it's a learning opportunity. We'll learn some things and take some things away from tonight and move forward."
There was no lack of offense inside Ridder Arena as the top-ranked Badgers suffered their first loss of the season despite scoring at least five goals for the seventh time this season. Minnesota scored four-straight goals early in the game, and the Badgers could not come back.
UW took an early 1-0 lead at the 3:11 mark of the game. After going on the power play just 1:18 into the first period, Duggan capitalized with seven seconds remaining on the man-advantage. She netted her sixth goal of the season on a feed from juniors Brooke Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) and Knight.
The Gophers responded quickly as Amanda Kessel found the back of the net at the 5:43 mark, scoring the first of four-straight Minnesota goals. Emily West and Kelly Terry both added first-period goals to give the home team the 3-1 advantage after the opening 20 minutes.
West then tallied her second goal of the night just seven seconds into the middle frame, extending the Gophers' lead to three at 4-1.
"You look at their first three goals, two of them were direct results of turnovers at the blue line," Johnson said. "We talked about eliminating as much of that as possible because Minnesota is a good transition team."
UW fired back as Knight cut the lead to 4-2 off a pass from junior Brittany Haverstock (Hammons Plains, Nova Scotia) with 16:03 left to play in the second.
The teams went back and forth, exchanging goals for the rest of the period. The Gophers regained their three-goal lead as Kelly Seeler scored on the power play at the 5:43 mark, but the Badgers answered with a power play goal by freshman Brittany Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) at 10:37 of the second period.
With 0:38 seconds left on the power play, Brittany Ammerman ripped a shot past Minnesota goaltender Noora Raty on the assist from Prevost. Erickson extended the Gopher lead back to three as she scored with assists from Baylee Gillanders and Raty at the 14:42 mark.
Wisconsin then put up two goals in under two minutes late in the period to make it 6-5. Duggan scored her second goal of the night off a feed from Knight with 3:12 remaining the in second to make it 6-4. Prevost then made it 6-5 with 1:46 left in the period with assists from senior Mallory Deluce (London, Ontario) and freshman Kelly Jaminski (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).
The Gophers extended their lead back to two midway through the third period as Erickson picked up her second goal of the night on an assist from West to increase Minnesota's lead to 7-5.
UW pulled its goaltender for the final minute and a half of the game, but couldn't find the back of the net with the sixth attacker on the ice.
With the loss, sophomore Becca Ruegsegger (Lakewood, Colo.) dropped to 4-1-0 on the season, giving up four goals on 12 shots after coming into the game at the start of the second period. Freshman goaltender Alex Rigsby (Delafield, Wis.) played the first period, surrendering three goals on 10 shots. For the Gophers, Raty improved to 5-2-0, finishing the night with 36 saves.
