MADISON, Wis. -- Led by its inside play, the Wisconsin women's basketball team won its second-straight game with a 68-53 win over Milwaukee on Sunday at the Kohl Center.

Wisconsin (4-7) dominated in the paint, outscoring Milwaukee 34-8 inside led by seniors Tara Steinbauer and Lin Zastrow. The duo both scored 17 points and pulled down 19 of the UW's 38 rebounds. The Badgers outrebounded the Panthers 38-23. Steinbauer's double-double marked her third of the season and eighth of her career.
Also reaching double figures in scoring was senior Alyssa Karel, who finished with 10 points for Wisconsin. Sophomore Taylor Wurtz contributed eight boards to help rack up the rebounding tally.
Wisconsin took a 30-26 lead heading into the locker room, outscoring Milwaukee 7-2 in the final 2:53 of the first half. Junior Jade Davis sealed the halftime lead by swishing one from downtown with two seconds left on the clock.
The Badgers held the Panthers (3-6) scoreless from the field for nearly 10 minutes from late in the first half to midway through the second half. During Milwaukee's 9:42 field goal drought, Wisconsin outscored the Panthers, 17-6, with Milwaukee finding all six points from behind the free throw line. Milwaukee did not score in the second period until Anne Breland hit a 3-pointer with 13:11 to play in the game, giving Wisconsin a 40-31 advantage.
The Panthers cut the lead to three (42-39) with 10:52 to go on another 3 pointer from Breland before Steinbauer took over, scoring eight of the UW's next 10 points. The 6-foot post scored a layup with 7:52 remaining to put the Badgers up 52-41.
Wisconsin led by 61-53 with 2:06 to play but the Badgers prevailed as Karel hit a trey as the shot clock was running out, giving UW a 64-53 lead with 1:30 to go.
The Badgers sealed the victory when redshirt sophomore Tiera Stephen converted a steal into a fast break layup for her first field goal for the Cardinal and White with nine seconds left in the game.
Wisconsin shot a season-high 49 percent (24-of-49) from the field and finished with a season-high 15-of-17 from the free throw line. Milwaukee shot just 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the field but an impressive 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from behind the arc, the most by a UW opponent this season.
The Badgers still struggled with ball control, turning the ball over 16 times while the Panthers were called for 13 turnovers.
Wisconsin wraps up its nonconference season on Wednesday, traveling to Wyoming to take on the Cowgirls. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. (CT) from the Arena Auditorium in Laramie, Wyo.
