MADISON, Wis. -- After two consecutive weeks on the road, the Wisconsin men’s track team returned home to the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center to host the Red & White Open Friday, as the Badgers made their final preparations for next weekend’s Big Ten indoor championships.

Wisconsin dominated the 60-meter hurdles, claiming the top five spots in the event. The Badgers were led by senior Nate Larkin, who crossed the line in a season-best time of 7.96 seconds.

Sophomore Adum Gross was next in 8.08, followed by junior Temi Ogunbodede (8.21), sophomore Adam Hexum (8.29) and sophomore Derek Steinbach (8.35).

In the mile, senior Ryan Gasper crossed the line first in a time of 4:07.80, improving his time from the Wisconsin Elite Invitational on Jan. 30 by nearly three seconds.

In the 3,000 meters, sophomore Phil Thomas finished second in a time of 8:35.96, with fellow sophomore Noel Bateman taking fourth by crossing the line in 8:42.08.

Senior Barry Gill claimed the win in the 400 meters, finishing in a time of 50.52. Junior Billy Lease followed in fifth place, crossing the line in 50.88.

The 600 meters proved to be the closest race of the day, with Wisconsin sophomores Andrew Milenkovski and Patrick Plank both finishing in 1:20.03. Milenkovski was judged to have narrowly edged Plank at the line to take the win.

The 200 meters had another closely-contested finish, with sophomore Kyle Jefferson winning the event in a time of 21.81 seconds. Freshman Gavin Robertson was just behind and crossed the line second in 21.82.

Sophomore David Grzesiak represented UW in the 60-meter dash, finishing seventh in 7.39 seconds.

In the field events, junior Jake Fritz led the way for UW in the shot put by winning the event with a throw of 56 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Freshman Casey Dehn followed in second with an identical mark of 56-9 1/4.

Senior Rory Linder rounded out the Badgers’ competitors in the event by throwing 50-4 3/4, good enough for fifth place. Linder also grabbed the win in the shot put with a throw of 58-2.

Senior Victor Dupuy placed third in the long jump with a leap of 22-5, and sophomore Ian Jansen was next with a jump of 21-3 1/2 to earn a sixth-place finish. Senior Seth Pelock followed in seventh by leaping 21-2 1/2 and Grzesiak was 10th with a jump of 19-2 3/4.

Freshman Paul Annear led the way for the Badgers in the high jump with a winning clearance of 6-9 3/4. Freshman Collin Taylor followed in second by clearing 6-8 3/4.

Junior Pat Nichols and freshman Lukey Klitz tied for fourth, both clearing 6-7 1/2.

The Badgers are back in action next weekend, Feb. 27-28, when they head to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete at the 2010 Big Ten Indoor Championships.
