Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Wisconsin jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but an eight-run first inning by Ohio State propelled the Buckeyes past the Badgers, 12-4, in five innings in game two of a doubleheader. The Buckeyes swept the two-game set, also taking game one, 6-4.

Freshman Whitney Massey hit her second home run of the season in the fifth inning of game two, part of a two-for-two day that included two runs scored.

Things looked promising early on as the Badgers jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

With one out, freshman Kendall Grimm singled to third base. After freshman Shannel Blackshear struck out, fellow freshman Molly Spence doubled down the left field line to make it 1-0. Freshman Whitney Massey then singled to shortstop, which allowed Spence to reach third. After Massey stole second, senior Letty Olivarez singled up the middle to bring in both runners and make it 3-0 in favor of the Badgers.

The lead would not last though as Ohio State put up eight runs in the bottom of the frame. The Buckeyes used six hits and eight illegal pitches called on UW pitchers to take a commanding 8-3 lead after the initial inning.

OSU tacked on another run in the third inning thanks to an RBI double by Sam Marder.

After Massey’s home run in the fifth inning made it a 9-4 Ohio State lead, the Buckeyes scored three runs on three hits and another illegal pitch in the bottom of the fifth to end the game via run rule.

The Badgers return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 31, with a doubleheader at in-state foe, Green Bay. Things get started at 1 p.m. (CT).
