MADISON, Wis. -- Playing under the lights and on the Big Ten Network, the Wisconsin softball team enjoyed a solid, 4-1, victory over Indiana on Saturday night at Goodman Diamond. Senior Letty Olivarez got the complete game win, giving up just one run on seven hits, while striking out five. At the plate, freshman Whitney Massey drove in a team-high two runs.

Indiana struck first, using a two-out rally to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Jennifer Glueckert lined a double over Ashley Hanewich's head in right field with two outs, and then came around to score on a single by Sara Olson.

The Badgers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.

Senior Katie Soderberg led off and reached on an error by IU second baseman, Samantha Berenter. Junior Jennifer Krueger followed by laying down a bunt and beating the throw to first base. After two outs, Soderberg stood on third and Krueger was at second. Massey then stepped in and singled back up the middle to drive in the eventual winning runs.

The Badgers added to their lead in the bottom of the second.

Olivarez blooped a single to shallow center field to lead things off. She was sacrificed to second by freshman Kendall Grimm and then moved on to third on a passed ball. Three batters later, Krueger slapped a hit to third base and hustled down the line to beat the throw and bring home Olivarez.

A strong defensive play from Grimm in the third inning kept the Badgers in front.

With runners on first and second and one out, Glueckert lined a shot to left field. Grimm raced to her left and made a spectacular diving catch, then had the presence of mind to throw to second to double off Breanna Saucedo.

UW tacked on an insurance run in the fourth inning.

With one out, Grimm singled to short and then moved to second on a wild pitch. Junior Ashley Hanewich followed with an RBI single to deliver the final margin.

Krueger, Olivarez and Grimm each recorded two hits in the win.

The Badgers and Hoosiers close out the two-game series tomorrow at Goodman Diamond. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m., and the game airs live on the Big Ten Network.
