Madison, Wis. - The UW men's golf team welcomes three new members this fall joining a squad dominated by freshmen and sophomores. Freshmen Robert Jacobsen of Racine, Wis., Stephane Dubois of Brantford, Ontario, CAN, and redshirt sophomore Christopher Meyer of Edina, Minn., are planning to attend the University of Wisconsin this fall.
With the graduation of seniors Jordan Elsen and Nick Engen, and the early graduation of Craig Cerbins, the 2010-11 UW squad has no seniors and eight of the nine players are of freshman or sophomore eligibility. Redshirt junior Jake Shapiro of Madison, Wis., is the lone upperclassman.
But being young doesn't mean the Badgers don't have experience. Four freshmen consistently traveled last season led by now-sophomore Michael Sorenson (Hartland, Wis.) who was second in scoring to senior Jordan Elsen playing in all 30 rounds and averaging 74.90 per round. Anthony Aicher (Wausau, Wis.) was the other freshman to play all 30 rounds and averaged 76.30 per round.
Sam Frank of Oconomowoc, Wis., played in 21 rounds as a freshman averaging 77.0 per round. As a redshirt freshman, Thomas Welk of Bismarck, ND, played in 13 rounds and averaged 77.0 as did redshirt freshman Brady Keegan who competed in eight rounds and averaged 77.13.
Experience will also come from Meyers who is a redshirt sophomore and transfer from the University of Minnesota. Meyers played in one tournament for the Gophers last fall and redshirted his freshman season. Just having two years of college classes and conditioning behind him will lend experience to the squad.
Joining the Badgers are Robert Jacobsen, a 6-1 left hander from Racine Horlick High School. He was the runner-up at the 2010 WIAA boys state golf championship held at University Ridge Golf Course. He is ranked the No. 1 golfer in Wisconsin in 2010 and is No. 127 nationally. He was named the Southeast Conference player of the year in 2008 and 2009, and is ranked No. 63 in the Golfweek Junior Boys' Rankings for 2010 high school graduates.

An accomplished all-around athlete, he is a four-year honor roll student and Ontario Scholar and played several years of competitive hockey while also lettering in golf, basketball, volleyball and cross-country.
Christopher Meyer is a 5-10 redshirt sophomore from Edina High School.
