• UW extended its regular-season winning streak over non-conference opponents to 26 games.
• The Badgers ran their streak of consecutive home-opening wins to 15 games.
• Wisconsin started the season 2-0 for the ninth-straight year.
• UW extended its home record to 37-4 since the start of the 2004 season.
• UW’s improved to 12-3 (.800) with Scott Tolzien as the starting quarterback.
• Wisconsin’s senior class improved to 28-13 (.683) over its four seasons, a mark that ranks eighth in school history.
• Wisconsin has opened both games this season by getting the ball first and going on long touchdown drives. At UNLV, the Badgers drove 80 yards in 14 plays, consuming 7:37 and ending in a 5-yard TD run by John Clay. Today’s game started with Wisconsin driving 77 yards on 10 plays (4:57 TOP), culminating in a 1-yard touchdown run by Clay.
• The Badgers ran for 212 yards, marking the second-consecutive game in which UW has topped the 200-yard mark. Wisconsin is now 22-2 when rushing for 200 yards or more under head coach Bret Bielema.
• San Jose State finished just 3-of-12 third-down conversions. After two games, UW opponents are now 7-26 (26.9 percent). UW has converted 14-of-26 on the season (53.8 percent), including 8-of-13 vs. SJSU.
Individual Notes
• Scott Tolzien’s 14-yard touchdown pass to TE Lance Kendricks in the second quarter was Wisconsin’s first passing score of the season. It was the fourth TD catch of Kendricks’ career and the 17th TD pass of Tolzien’s career.
• Redshirt freshman Jared Abbrederis recorded his first career reception, catching a 6-yard pass in the second quarter. He finished the game with five receptions for 58 yards. He also made his debut as a punt returner in the third quarter but did not field a punt.
• Dating back to last season, kicker Philip Welch has made 13 of his last 14 field goals. For his career, Welch is 41-of-52 (.788), the second-best career FG percentage in school history. He was 2-for-2 on field goals Saturday vs. San Jose State.
• Linebacker Blake Sorensen registered his second career interception in the first quarter.
• Cornerback Antonio Fenelus recorded his second career interception in the third quarter.
• Running back John Clay rushed for 137 yards on 23 carries, marking the eighth-consecutive game in which the junior has topped the 100-yard milestone.
• Clay scored on a pair of 1-yard TD runs, the ninth multi-TD game of his career and the fourth in a row. He now has 31 career rushing TDs.
• Tolzien passed for 191 yards, giving him 3,200 career passing yards and moving him into 11th place on UW’s all-time list. Tolzien passed Jim Haluska (1952, ’54-55), who had 3,093 yards and needs just 28 yards to move ahead of Tyler Donovan (2004-07) for 10th place.
• J.J. Watt was credited with a blocked field goal in the second quarter, when he tipped Harrison Waid’s 43-yard attempt. It was Watt's second FG block of his career as he was the last Badger to block a FG, on Nov. 14, 2009 vs. Michigan.
