MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin softball team opens the Yvette Healy era this weekend with a doubleheader at the Collegiate Fall Fling before wrapping up the fall season with a doubleheader at home against Illinois State on Sept. 26.
“Our new coaching staff is excited to compete these next few weekends,” said Healy, who was hired as the third coach in program history on July 24. “We are thrilled at the energy, excitement and eagerness to learn demonstrated by the team so far. This is an extremely athletic team with huge upside.
“Our fall games are a great way to help us get a little better each day.”
The Badgers open their fall campaign on Sunday, Sept. 19 when they travel to Minooka, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois at 2 p.m. and Loyola at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 26, UW welcomes Illinois State to Goodman Diamond for a two-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., with the second game to follow at approximately 3 p.m.
As the Badgers enter the 2011 season, they lose just two players from the 2010 team that saw the team finish eighth in the Big Ten, its best conference finish since 2005.
