• The Badgers’ 70 points Saturday set a single-game school record for the most points in the modern era (since 1946), edging out UW’s 69 points in a win over New Mexico State on Sept. 29, 1962. The 67-point margin of victory is also the highest in the modern era, surpassing UW’s 65-0 win over Temple on Sept. 10, 2005.
• Wisconsin scored touchdowns on all seven of its offensive drives in the first half and scored 49 points. That is the most points in a half since UW scored 51 points against Temple in 2005. Overall, the Badgers scored TDs on their first nine drives. UW scored on its first nine possessions against Temple as well (eight TDs, one FG).
• The Badgers rolled up 618 total yards of offense and 33 first downs. The 618 yards are the sixth-most in UW history and just the 11th time ever that Wisconsin has eclipsed the 600-yard mark.
• In the first half, the Badgers ran 37 plays for 418 yards, an average of 11.3 yards per play.
• For the third time in four games, Wisconsin got the ball first and drove the length of the field for a touchdown. Today, the Badgers drove 68 yards in nine plays, chewing up 4:48 and culminating in a 7-yard TD run by FB Bradie Ewing. UW also scored TDs on the first drive of the game at UNLV and vs. San Jose State. Against Arizona State, K Philip Welch missed a 44-yard FG on the opening drive. Wisconsin’s game-opening drives have averaged 10.5 plays, 69.0 yards and 5:33 off the clock.
• Wisconsin racked up 33 first downs. The last time the Badgers reached the 30-first down mark was at Indiana in 2008 when UW recorded 31 first downs.
• The Badgers held Austin Peay to only eight first downs, the fewest single-game total for a UW opponent since Purdue had just eight on Oct. 31, 2009.
• UW finished with just one penalty on the afternoon. The last time Wisconsin had just one penalty in a game was against Illinois on Oct. 26, 2006.
• The Badgers did not turn the ball over for the second consecutive game. The last time Wisconsin had consecutive games without a turnover was during the first three games of the 2007 season when UW had zero giveaways against Washington State, UNLV and The Citadel.
Individual Notes
• QB Scott Tolzien, playing just the first half, completed 15-of-17 passes for 217 yards and three TDs. That translates into a passer rating of 253.7. His completion percentage of 88.2 percent is tied for fifth-best in school history.
• TE Lance Kendricks has 13 catches for 234 yards and two TDs in the last two games. Today he had six receptions for 103 yards and a score. He is the first Badger to record back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since TE Travis Beckum did so against Michigan and Ohio State in 2007.
• Junior RB John Clay ran for 118 yards on 15 carries (7.9 ypc.) with a 12-yard TD. He extended his nation-leading 100-yard streak to 10 games. He has also scored a TD in 10 straight contests.
• FB Bradie Ewing’s first-quarter touchdown run was his first carry of the season. He also added another carry for eight yards in the second quarter. Ewing now has two TDs among his six career carries. Ewing also added a 3-yard TD reception in the second quarter, the first receiving TD of his career. The last UW player to have a rushing and receiving TD in the same game was WR Isaac Anderson against Northern Illinois in the 2009 season-opener.
• Freshman RB James White became the seventh Badger in school history to rush for four TDs in a game and the first since RB P.J. Hill had four vs. The Citadel on Sept. 15, 2007. White’s 66-yard TD run in the second quarter was the Badgers’ longest play from scrimmage since Clay’s 72-yard touchdown run vs. Fresno State on Sept. 12, 2009. White finished the game with career highs in carries (11) and yards (145).
• White’s four touchdowns also tied a UW freshman single-game record. RB Ron Dayne posted four TDs on two separate occasions during his freshman year (1996).
• The last time UW had two players with at least 100 rushing yards in the same game was at Indiana on Nov. 7, 2009, when Clay and Montee Ball both surpassed the 100-yard mark.
• Wisconsin had four different running backs score a touchdown Saturday and had six different players find the end zone in all.
• TE Jacob Pederson caught his first-career TD pass late in the second quarter, making a leaping grab to haul in a 10-yard pass in the back of the end zone.
