Final Stats

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The No. 74-ranked Wisconsin women’s tennis team continued its weekend road trip on Sunday in Williamsburg, Va. Despite a close match, the Badgers were not able to pull an upset over the No. 56-ranked William and Mary falling 4-3, for a weekend split.

The doubles point didn’t come easily for either team, coming down to a battle in the No. 1 slot to break the split, proving just how even the two teams were.

Hannah Berner and Jessica Seyferth got things started for Wisconsin in the No. 3 doubles slot, earning an easy 8-2 win over Kargl and Mamiit.

The Tribe’s Mesgarzadeh and Vulovich answered back in the No. 2 spot with a 8-4 win over the UW pair of Angela Chupa and Jenny Hois to even things up.

The Badger duo of Alaina Trgovich and Nicky Stracar battled it out against Cepeda and Johnson in the No. 1 spot for the first point of the match. Trgovich and Stracar found themselves down, 7-3, but fought back to close the deficit to 8-6, but eventually fell to the Tribe, 9-8 (6), to give William and Mary the 1-0 advantage going into singles competition.

William and Mary took the momentum earning the next two victories in the Nos. 5 and 4 singles spots to go up 3-0, but freshman Stracar brought the Badgers back with a No. 1 singles slot win. After a 6-4 first set win, Vulovich challenged the Badger in the second set but Stracar eventually came out on top, 7-5.

Hois earned the second Wisconsin singles win of the day in the No. 3 spot downing Mesgarzadeh, 6-4, 6-2, to close in on the Tribe, 2-3.

In the first third set match of the day, redshirt junior Alaina Trgovich took on Hope Johnson in the No. 2 singles spot. After falling in the first set, Trgovich grabbed the second set win, 6-4, but Johnson took the third set for the William and Mary match win.

Despite the match decision, senior captain Seyferth won the No. 6 spot to bring the final score 4-3, William and Mary.

The Badgers will return home next weekend to begin a four-match homestand playing host to Green Bay and Northern Illinois on Sunday, Jan. 30.
