CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- In the No. 4 Wisconsin wrestling team's second match at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Saturday, the Badgers defeated American in a decisive 23-16 win. The Badgers now move to 7-0 in dual meets on the season.

Wisconsin recorded two wins by technical fall, including a 5-point tech fall by No. 3 Tyler Graff. In addition, junior No. 5 Travis Rutt and redshirt freshman Derrick Borlie obtained major decisions over their opponents. Borlie's win was especially important, as the unranked 197-pounder conquered American's No. 11 Daniel Mitchell.
Capturing his second win of the day, redshirt sophomore Tom Kelliher defeated Thomas Williams by a 3-2 decision. Kelliher scored a takedown and an escape, and allowed just one escape in the 125 lbs. matchup. The win gave Wisconsin a 3-0 lead over the Eagles.
Graff, who wrestled earlier in the day at 141 lbs., registered his second technical fall win of the of the Duals against Kevin Tao at 133 lbs. Graff scored eight takedowns, five nearfall points and an escape in his 22-6 victory, extending UW's lead to 8-0.
Redshirt freshman Danny Arnel dropped UW's first match against American, losing by a 19-6 major decision to Matthew Mariacher at 141 lbs. All six of Arnel's points resulted from escapes. The victory narrowed the Badgers' lead to 8-4.
At 149 lbs., redshirt sophomore Cole Schmitt won his second match of the day by a much closer decision than his previous pin Saturday morning against South Dakota State's James Hamilton. Schmitt defeated Ganbayar Sanjaa by a 4-3 decision, which included a takedown in the first period and one escape in each of the following periods. The win put Wisconsin up 11-4.
Redshirt sophomore Kalvin York then took on Steve Fittery, losing his second match of the day by pin. Fittery scored a takedown and three nearfall points before pinning York at 1:17, bringing the Eagles within one point of Wisconsin (11-10) in the matchup.
Returning to his regular weight class (165 lbs.) after wrestling at 174 lbs. against South Dakota State, junior Andrew Howe defeated American's Patrick Graham by a 24-7 technical fall (7:00). Howe posted 10 takedowns, three escapes and earned riding time in the victory, giving the Badgers a 15-10 lead.
Redshirt freshman Shawn Perry then faced Phillip Barreiro at 174 lbs. Perry, who previously wrestled at 165 lbs., scored two takedowns and an escape, but dropped the match by a 7-5 decision. Following the loss, the Badgers held a 15-13 lead over the Eagles.
Putting Wisconsin on top 19-13, junior Travis Rutt defeated Thomas Barreiro by a 14-4 major decision at 184 lbs. Rutt scored six takedowns, an escape and riding time, extending his season record to 16-1. Borlie earned the second-straight major decision for UW.
Borlie posted three takedowns, a reversal and riding time in his 9-1 victory over No. 11 Mitchell. The win clinched the victory for Wisconsin, putting the score out of reach at 23-13.
In the last match of the day, redshirt senior Eric Bugenhagen fell to No. 2 Ryan Flores by 7-4 decision at heavyweight. Bugenhagen recorded four escapes, but could not hold off Flores from scoring three takedowns and an escape of his own.
Earlier in the day, the Badgers notched a 42-3 victory over South Dakota State in the opening round of the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals.
Wisconsin faces No. 12 Virginia Tech tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CT) in its third dual of the weekend. Virginia Tech defeated Central Michigan to open the Duals and slated an 18-16 upset victory over No. 2 Oklahoma State on Saturday Afternoon.
The Badgers previously recorded a 24-19 victory over the Hokies in the ACC Challenge on Nov. 21, 2010.
