UW improves six spots is tied for ninth at Kiawah Island

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The Badgers improved six spots to tie for ninth after the second round of the 54-hole Kiawah Island Intercollegiate held at Turtle Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C. The team leader in the 21-team field is Campbell University with an 8-over par 292-292--584.

Freshman Thomas O'Bryan continued to lead UW with a 4-over par 75-73--148 to remain tied for 17th with his 36-hole career best. Thomas Welk rebounded from his first round 85 to shoot a 71 and is tied for 50th with 12-over 156.

Anthony Aicher, who has led the Badgers in four meets this year, also rebounded from a tough first day to tie at 57 with a 13-over par 83-74--157. Chris Meyer matched that score with his 79-78--157. Brady Keegan rounded out Badger scoring tying for 87th with a 19-over 81-82--163.

Coach Michael Burcin liked the improvement he saw in his team. "As a team we made some nice progress today. (I) couldn't be happier for Tom Welk and his bounce back round of 71. Thomas O'Bryan continued with another solid round as well. If we can close out the round a little stronger tomorrow, we could have a decent finish considering where we started on Sunday."

Jacobo Pastor of the host school, Charleston Southern, is the individual leader with a 4-under par 71-69--140.
