MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin men’s golf coach Michael Burcin announced his first signee to the men’s golf program. Matt Ross from Hartland, Wis., has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Wisconsin this fall. A senior at Arrowhead High School, he is the son of John and Tammy Ross of Hartland.
Playing No. 1, he helped Arrowhead to two state titles and one runner-up finish (2011). He placed seventh in the 2011 WIAA Division I State Tournament earning first-team all-state honors. Ross won the 2009 AJGA Junior All-Star Penn State and was named to the 2009 AJGA Junior All-Star Team. He was runner-up at the 2010 Wisconsin Junior and advanced to the 2010 U.S. Junior. He tied for 12th at the 2011 USGA Junior Boys Amateur qualifying with a 75-75-150.
"We are pleased that Matt Ross will be joining our roster for the fall of 2012,” Burcin said. “We think a lot of Matt as a person and certainly have to compliment him on waiting on our transition here to Madison to make his formal commitment and wanting to be a Badger.
“Matt brings an athletic, tall build which is important to us moving forward as look for players with a tremendous amount of athleticism. He will start a trend for us as we keep the best players in state and build our program with top players from Wisconsin and national talent. We cannot wait to add Matt's talents on the golf course and more importantly his solid work ethic and commitment to the Badger golf program. Assistant coach Bryant Odom was vital to this signing as well, as he hit the ground running in July with Matt as our top target from a recruiting stand point in 2012. We are all very excited about this next step for the program."
