MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin wrestling team hosted the first-ever Badger Duals on Sunday afternoon, defeating Loras, UW-Whitewater and Wartburg. Seven Badger wrestlers went undefeated at six different weight classes throughout the three duals.

UW defeated Loras in its first dual of the day, 38-3. Wisconsin’s only loss in the dual came at 133 lbs. where true freshman Austin Hietpas fell to Brian Cullen by a 9-5 decision. The Badgers recorded six wins by extra points, including major decisions by redshirt junior Tom Kelliher (141 lbs.), redshirt sophomore Shawn Perry (157 lbs.), No. 16 senior Ben Jordan (165 lbs.), redshirt freshman Frank Cousins (174 lbs.) and redshirt sophomore Jackson Hein (197 lbs.), as well as a pin by redshirt sophomore Cole Tobin (heavyweight). Loras forfeited the 184 lbs. match.

The Badgers then went on to hand UW-Whitewater a 39-3 loss, which included five wins by extra points, including major decisions by Perry (157 lbs.), McCall (184 lbs.) and Hein (197 lbs.), as well as pins by No. 15 redshirt junior Cole Schmitt (149 lbs.) and Jordan (165 lbs.). UW-Whitewater forfeited the 125 lbs. match.

Wisconsin faced its toughest opponent against National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III No. 1-ranked Wartburg in its final bout of the afternoon. UW never had a lead throughout the dual and Wartburg led the Badgers, 16-13, entering the heavyweight matchup. Despite a decision by Tobin, Wisconsin won the dual according to tiebreaker conditions that state if in a dual, both teams won the same amount of matches and no falls or tech falls were awarded, then the tie is settled by total points within the match. Wisconsin ended the dual with 57 points compared to Wartburg’s 54, giving UW the 17-16 dual win.

At 125 lbs., McQuade went 2-1 on the day, with wins over Loras’ Pat Fantz by a 9-7 decision and UW-Whitewater by forfeit. McQuade’s one loss came against Wartburg’s Gilberto Camacho by an 8-4 decision.

Hietpas, wrestling up a weight class, lost all three matches he competed in at 133 lbs.

Kelliher earned wins against Loras’ Chris Reed by a 17-8 major decision and UW-Whitewater’s Brian Lewis by a 3-0 decision, but fell to Wartburg’s Charles Tims by a 6-4 decision.

At 149 lbs., Thomas Glenn defeated Loras’ Drew Salzman by a 6-5 decision, while Schmitt claimed victory over UW-Whitewater’s Kyle Logsdon by fall (2:10) and Wartburg’s Kodie Silvestri by a 13-4 major decision.

Perry garnered three wins on the day, defeating Loras’ Chris Gansen by an 11-1 major decision, UW-Whitewater’s Cory Schmidt  by an 8-0 major decision and Wartburg’s Cameron Wagner by a 10-6 decision at 157 lbs.

Jordan also went undefeated at the Badger Duals with wins against Loras’ Tom Gross by a 12-4 major decision, UW-Whitewater’s Tyler Becker fall (4:12) and Wartburg’s Landon Williams by a 7-1 decision at 165 lbs.

Cousins claimed two victories, defeating Loras’ Josh Porter by an 8-0 major decision and UW-Whitewater’s Reid Dickerson by a 3-2 decision. He then lost his final match of the day by a 7-5 decision in sudden victory overtime to Wartburg’s Bradley Banks at 174 lbs.

At 184 lbs., McCall also went undefeated, claiming victories over UW-Whitewater’s David Dwyer by an 11-1 major decision and Wartburg’s Dylan Azinger by a 6-4 decision. He also earned a win by forfeit against Loras.

Hein garnered two victories at the Badger Duals, defeating Loras’ Josh Kirkland by a 10-0 major decision and UW-Whitewater’s Mitch Elmer by an 11-2 major decision. Hein’s sole loss came against Wartburg’s 2010 Division III 197 lbs. champion Byron Tate by a 4-1 decision.

Tobin won against every opponent he faced at the duals, defeating Loras’ Kyle Henry by fall (0:43), UW-Whitewater’s Corey Anderson by a 5-3 decision and Wartburg’s Ryan Fank by a 4-2 decision at heavyweight.

The Badgers return to the mat next weekend when they take on Princeton and Rider in Princeton, N.J. on Friday, Nov. 18, and Hofstra on Sunday, Nov. 20. UW will face Princeton at 2 p.m. (CT), Rider at 6 p.m. (CT) and Hofstra at 11 a.m. (CT).
