MADISON, Wis. - Former Wisconsin wrestling standout Eric Barnett is officially returning to Madison, joining the Wisconsin Regional Training Center (RTC) as a full-time athlete.
A three-time NCAA All-American and two-time Big Ten finalist, Barnett left an undeniable mark on the Wisconsin wrestling program. Known for his steady leadership and competitiveness at 125 pounds, he helped raise the standard in the room and became one of the most decorated lightweights in program history.
Now, as he transitions into the next chapter of his wrestling career, Barnett is coming home to train at Wisconsin, the place that developed him into a three-time All-American and helped shape the athlete and person he is today.
"I am so excited to come back to UW to pursue my goals of winning World and Olympic titles," Barnett said. "Wisconsin wrestling will continue to grow and help me pursue excellence. My goals are not only to win World and Olympic championships, but also to help develop the University of Wisconsin into a powerhouse program year over year."
Originally from Greenville, Wisconsin, Barnett racked up over 100 career wins as a Badger and earned Academic All-Big Ten and NWCA Scholar All-American honors multiple times. His return to Madison not only bolsters the Wisconsin RTC's growing roster of post-collegiate athletes but also strengthens the alumni ties that continue to fuel the program's success.
"I'm very excited to get Eric back into our room," said head coach Chris Bono. "Not only does he want to pursue winning world and Olympic medals, but he has a passion for giving back to our program and helping this team. He has always embraced the core values of our program and will be a huge asset for us. I appreciate all the people who helped make this happen."
As a full-time RTC athlete, Barnett will focus on international competition with sights set on World and Olympic level events, training alongside other elite wrestlers while staying connected to the Badger family that shaped his foundation.
