AUSTIN, Texas -- In Yvette Healy's first game as Wisconsin head coach, it was a player making her own debut that led the Badgers to a 4-0 win over Texas State in the 2011 season opener.

Freshman Cassandra Darrah got the start in the circle and held the Bobcats hitless through the first five innings en route to a complete game shutout as Wisconsin won its season opener for the first time since 2007.

 Fast Facts
• Badgers win first game under Healy
• Darrah hurls complete game shutout
• Texas State held hitless for first five innings

After four innings of scoreless ball, Wisconsin broke through in the top of the fifth for a pair of runs.

The Badgers loaded the bases after a groundout, a single, a walk and an infield single. Freshman Stephanie Peace then grounded to second base. Anna Hernandez came home with the ball, but her throw pulled Macie Hair's foot off the plate to let Shannel Blackshear score. Ashley Hanewich followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Badgers up 2-0.

Wisconsin then added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Karla Powell led off double down the left field line before being pinch run for by Michelle Mueller. Peace followed with a single up the middle to plate Mueller. Later in the frame, Darrah hit a sacrifice fly to shallow center field to bring home Peace.

The Badgers worked themselves out of a pair of bases loaded situations to preserve the shutout.

The Bobcats loaded the bases with one out in the frame. Darrah got out of the jam though by notching her first career strikeout and then getting Jordan Masek to pop out.

Wisconsin again got out of a jam in the sixth inning.

With one out, the Bobcats hit back-to-back singles. Masek struck out swinging, but Emily Jacobs singled up the middle to load the bases. Darrah came through again though, getting Allison Snow to foul out to Peace to end the threat.

Darrah finished the game with four strikeouts, four walks and four hits allowed.

Notes: Whitney Massey tied a school record with three walks in the game ... the Badgers improve to 6-10 all-time in season openers ... Wisconsin has now thrown a shutout in three of the six season-opening wins, most recently a 3-0 win over UNLV on Feb. 8, 2002 ... the 4-0 win was Wisconsin's first shutout since an 8-0 win over Indiana on May 2, 2010 ... Wisconsin and Texas State had not played each other prior to Thursday's matchup
