MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 6 Wisconsin wrestling team suffered its third-consecutive dual loss of the season and third defeat in Big Ten Conference competition to No. 24 Purdue. Despite winning half of the matches, only No. 3 redshirt sophomore Tyler Graff earned bonus points in the 18-16 loss to the Boilermakers.

 Fast Facts
• Five of the 10 Badger wrestlers earned victories against Purdue
• Schmitt returned to the mat for the first time since Jan. 9
• Graff recorded UW's only win by bonus points

Graff (133 lbs.) and No. 3 junior Travis Rutt (184 lbs.) have not lost a match in over two months, recording their 23rd victories of the season to extend their dual records to 13-0, while No. 2 redshirt senior Trevor Brandvold (197 lbs.) remains undefeated with a 7-0 record.

No. 8 redshirt sophomore Cole Schmitt (149 lbs.) returned to the mat after being out for almost a month, but UW (9-4-1, 0-3-1 Big Ten) was still without junior standout Andrew Howe (165 lbs.).

The dual began at 125 lbs. where Wisconsin fell behind early, 6-0, with a Purdue pin. Redshirt sophomore Tom Kelliher fell to Purdue's (6-7-1, 1-4-0 Big Ten). Camden Eppert at 6:05. Prior to the fall, Kelliher had scored the first takedown of the match, but trailed 4-3.

Graff then faced Akif Eren at 133 lbs. Graff jumped right out of the gate with five takedowns in the first period, and continued the trend by recording six additional takedowns, two escapes and 2:31 of riding time. Graff's 15th-straight win narrowed the Boilermakers' lead to 6-4. The Badger victory was the first Wisconsin win by bonus points since Jan. 21.

Purdue then extended its lead to 9-4 when freshman Shane McQuade lost to Jake Fleckenstein by a 6-1 decision. No points were awarded in either the first or second period. McQuade managed to score an escape in the third period, but he could not overcome Fleckenstein's two takedowns, escape and 2:57 of riding time.

In Schmitt's first match since defeating Minnesota's Dan Zilverberg, 7-0, he defeated Sam Patacsil by a 10-5 decision. Schmitt grabbed an early lead with a takedown and three back points in the first period, but Patacsil quickly reversed Schmitt near the start of the second period. Schmitt went on to score another takedown, an escape and 1:34 of riding time to cut the Boilermakers' score to 9-7.

At 157 lbs., redshirt freshman Kalvin York fell to Colton Salazar by a 7-3 decision. York scored three escapes in the bout, and was within a point of Salazar twice throughout the match. Salazar's victory gave Purdue a 12-7 lead.

Freshman Ben Cox then wrestled Kyle Mosier at 165 lbs. Cox suffered his third-straight loss of the season, falling to Mosier by a 4-1 decision. The victory gave the Boilermakers a 15-7 lead over the Badgers.

In the first of three-straight ranked matchups, No. 12 redshirt sophomore Ben Jordan took on No. 8 Luke Manuel at 174 lbs. Jordan and Manuel each recorded an escape after starting each period down, however, Manuel grabbed a 2-1 victory with 1:23 of riding time. Jordan's second loss of the weekend gave Purdue its biggest lead of the day, 18-7.

Wisconsin cut the lead to 18-10 with a 6-4 decision by No. 3 Travis Rutt over No. 7 A.J. Kissel. At one point, Rutt led the match by a 5-0 margin, but an escape, reversal and consecutive stall warnings on Rutt brought the match within one point with a minute remaining in the bout. The junior managed to fend off any additional points from Kissel and registered 1:39 of riding time at the end of the match.

At 197 lbs., No. 2 redshirt senior Trevor Brandvold defeated No. 9 Logan Brown in a close 2-0 decision. After a scoreless first period, Brandvold scored an escape in the second to enter the third period with a 1-0 advantage. Brown was unable to escape after choosing to start down in the third, giving Brandvold a point with 1:41 of riding time. Brandvold's win brought UW within five points of Purdue.

Despite Wisconsin's second-straight victory at heavyweight, the Boilermakers edged out Wisconsin with an 18-16 dual victory. No. 11 redshirt senior Eric Bugenhagen defeated Roger Vukobratovich by a 4-2 decision, which included a takedown 12 seconds into the match, an escape and 1:03 of riding time.

Wisconsin returns to the mat Friday, Feb. 11 to take on No. 17 Northwestern at 7 p.m. (CT)  in Evanston, Ill. The Badgers wrap up the weekend with their last home dual against Ohio State on Sunday at 1 p.m. (CT).
