SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- UC Santa Barbara scored two runs in each of the first three innings en route to a 7-0 victory over Wisconsin at the Gaucho Classic in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Saturday morning.

In the loss, Jennifer Krueger tied a Wisconsin school record by recording a hit in her 16th-straight game when she led off the fourth inning with an infield single. It ties the mark set by Samantha Polito, April 1-24, 2007.

 Fast Facts
• Krueger ties school record with 16-game hit streak
• Najdek enjoys strong relief appearance
• UCSB scores twice in each of first three innings

Krueger has hit safely in all 13 games this year as she did in the final three games of the 2010 season. She's batting 24-47 (.511) during her streak. In fact, Krueger has a hit in 25 of her last 26 games, batting .493 (37-75) over that stretch.

The Gauchos (12-9) capitalized on a UW (6-7) error to take a lead in the first.

With one out, Kathryn Pilpil grounded one to Stephanie Peace at shortstop. Ranging to her right, Peace was unable to come up with it cleanly, resulting in an error. After a walk to Jessica Beristianos, Meghan Mcintosh came back to strike out Keilani Jennings. The Badgers were almost out of the inning but Allison Taylor roped a double to the gap in right center, past a diving try from UW centerfielder Jennifer Krueger. Due to the error, both runs were unearned.

The deficit grew to 4-0 as Kathryn Pilpil hit the second two-out, two-run double for UCSB in the second inning. With two outs and a runner on first, McKenzie Kane singled to Peace at shortstop. That set the stage for Pilpil who blasted on to left center to double the score.

Two more runs in the third pushed the lead to 6-0 for the Gauchos.

Taylor led off with a walk, and she moved to second on bunt single by Lauren Boser. A fielding error by Michelle Mueller, who had a career-high two hits in the game, let Katie McWhirter reach safely and the bases became full.

Lainey DePompa then popped up a pitch behind shortstop but Peace couldn't come up with the catch to allow a run to score and keep the bases full. The Badgers got two quick outs, but a bases loaded walk brought in a sixth run.

Another positive for Wisconsin was the performance of freshman Amanda Najdek. Coming on in relief, she threw a career-high three and one-thirds inning and notched a career-high four strikeouts. She surrendered four hits and just one run in her appearance.
