Charleston, S.C. -- The No. 72 Wisconsin women's tennis team (8-4) was upset by the College of Charleston, 6-1, on Sunday in Charleston, S.C. The Cougars nearly swept the meet, winning all doubles matches and all but one singles match.
Freshman Jenny Hois (No. 2) was the only Badger to win a singles match. Hois' win was her 10th of the season, defeating Emma Hayman in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
At No. 1 singles, freshman Nicky Stracar lost just her fourth match of the season to Christin Newman, 6-2, 6-3.
Sophomore Hannah Berner represented UW at No. 3 singles where she faced Caroline Newman. Berner lost the match, 6-3, 6-2.
The closest match of the day came at No. 4 singles where senior Jessica Seyferth fell to Kinsey Casey. After winning the first set, 6-2, Seyferth dropped the following two sets, 7-5, 6-1.
Junior Aleksandra Markovic also lost her match at No. 5 singles against Keely Mulligan . Mulligan just barely won the first set, 7-6, but decisively beat Markovic by a 6-0 margin in the second set.
Freshman Caroline Bauer competed in just her third singles match of the season at No. 6 singles against Katie Lee. Lee handed Bauer her first loss of the season, shutting her out, 6-0, 6-0.
The Badgers lost the doubles point, dropping all three doubles matches. UW had a different doubles lineup than any other this season.
At No. 1 doubles, redshirt junior Alaina Trgovich and Hois fell to Emma Hayman and Irene Viana, 8-5. This was Hois' first match this season at No. 1 doubles.
Berner and Seyferth also lost their match at No. 2 doubles to Kinsey Casey and Katie Lee, 8-1. This was Bener and Seyferth's first loss in doubles play this season.
Stracar who normally plays at No. 1 doubles, paired with Markovic at No. 3 doubles against Caroline Newman and Christin Newman. The Cougars won the match, 8-5.
Wisconsin takes on No. 41 North Carolina State at 1 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.
