Charleston, S.C. -- The No. 72 Wisconsin women’s tennis team suffered its third-straight loss, falling to No. 34 North Carolina State on Saturday. The Pack swept the Badgers, 7-0, winning all but one doubles match.

Freshman Jenny Hois competed for the first time at No. 1 singles against 24th-ranked Sanaa Bhambri. She lost her first set by a close 7-5 score and dropped the second, 6-2.

Freshman Nicky Stracar also lost to a ranked opponent, falling to No. 73 Sandhya Nagaraj in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Redshirt junior Alaina Trgovich returned to the No. 3 spot against Tatiana Illoya. Trgovich put up a fight in the first set, losing just 7-5, and dropped the second set by a 6-4 margin.

Sophomore Hannah Berner also lost her match in straight sets at No. 4 singles. She lost, 6-3, 6-3, to Joelle Kissell.

In the only match that went to three sets, senior Jessica Seyferth fell to Christy Sipes. Sipes won the first set 6-4, but dropped the following set 6-3. Sipes came back to win the final set 6-4.

Junior Lauren Gruber competed in just her fourth singles match this season at No. 6 against Chloe Smith. Gruber had not lost a singles match this season prior to the meeting, but fell to Smith by a 6-2, 6-0 score.

North Carolina State earned the doubles point, winning all but the No. 3 doubles match.

The No. 19 duo of Bhambri and Nagaraj defeated Trgovich and Berner, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles, and the team of Hojckova and Illova beat Hois and Seyferth at No. 2 by an 8-4 margin.

Wisconsin’s only win came at No. 3 doubles, where Starcar and Chupa decisively defeated Shah and Miller, 8-1.

The Badgers return home on Saturday, March 26, to take on Northern Iowa and UW-Whitewater at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. UW will face the Panthers at 9 a.m. and the Warkhawks at 3 p.m.
