EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Wisconsin women’s tennis team was swept by No. 11 Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. on Sunday. Northwestern won all singles and doubles matches in the 7-0 win.
The Wildcats’ lineup included three ranked singles player and the No. 6-ranked doubles team in the nation.
At No. 1 singles, freshman Jenny Hois took on No. 13 Maria Mosolova. Hois lost in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.
Redshirt junior Alaina Trgovich also lost in straight-sets in her first start at the No. 2 spot since January. Trgovich won just one game in both sets, losing to No. 67 Belinda Niu, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore Hannah Berner faced her first ranked opponent of the season in No. 87 Kate Turvy at No. 3 singles. Berner fought her way to a 6-4 loss in the first set and dropped the second 6-2.
Senior Jessica Seyferth faired the best against her opponent, falling to Stacey Lee, 6-2, 7-5.
Linda Abu Mushrefova defeated junior Aleksandra Markovic at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Junior Lauren Gruber lost just her second singles match of the year, falling to Nida Hamilton. Gruber was shut out in the first set, 6-0, and won just one game in the second, 6-1.
Northwestern also won the doubles point, winning all three matches. Freshmen Hois and Nicky Stracar fell to sixth-ranked Abu Mushrefova and Hamilton at No. 1 doubles, 8-5.
Berner and Seyferth lost just their second doubles match of the season to Mosolova and Chernyakova, 8-4.
Markovic and Trgovich held the closest doubles match, losing to Niu and Turvy, 8-6.
The Badgers will face Michigan State on April 1 at 3 p.m. at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
