MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 66 Wisconsin women’s tennis team knocked off No. 59 Minnesota, 6-1, in its first Big Ten Conference match of the season Friday night. The Badgers are now 8-2 overall and are riding a four-match winning streak.

UW nearly swept the Gophers, winning all three doubles matches and all but one singles match.

At No. 1 singles, freshman Nicky Stracar defeated her first ranked opponent of the season, No. 54 Natallia Pintusava, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Stracar has competed for Wisconsin at No. 1 singles in every meet, compiling a 7-2 record.

Freshman Jenny Hois extended her team-best record to 8-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Alessandra Ferrazzi at No. 2 singles. Hois has not lost a singles match since facing then No. 104 Shannon Matthews of Notre Dame.

After dropping her first match 6-1, redshirt junior Alaina Trgovich rallied back to defeat Magdalena Wiecha, 1-6, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 3 singles. Trgovich remains undefeated at No. 3 singles this season with a 6-0 record.

Sophomore Hannah Berner is now 7-1 at No. 4 singles this season with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (5) victory against Alexa Palen.

At No. 5 singles, senior Jessica Seyferth recorded just her second loss of the season, falling to Doron Muravnik. Muravnik took the first set, 6-4, but lost the following set, 6-3. In a long fought tiebreaker, Muravnik pulled out a 10-9 victory to take the match.

Junior Angela Chupa won her first match of the season at No. 6 singles, defeating Mariana Splica, 6-2, 6-0.

Wisconsin earned the doubles point, winning all three matches.

UW won the doubles point with wins by Stracar and Trgovich at No. 1 doubles, Hois and Chupa at No. 2, and Berner and Seyferth at No. 3. Berner and Seyferth’s win pushes their season doubles record to a perfect 10-0.
