Final Stats
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Wisconsin women’s tennis team (11-10, 2-5 Big Ten) lost its fifth Big Ten Conference match of the season Friday afternoon, falling to No. 64 Ohio State (12-9, 5-2 Big Ten) on the road. The Badgers won one singles match and two doubles matches in the 5-2 loss to the Buckeyes.
UW took an early 1-0 lead in the overall score, winning two of three doubles matches.
At No. 1 doubles, junior Alaina Trgovich and freshman Jenny Hois posted an 8-6 win over OSU's Kelsey Haviland and Cami Hubbs. Senior Jessica Seyferth and sophomore Hannah Berner also grabbed a doubles victory for UW, improving to 16-4 on the year with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Badgers' only singles win came at No. 1 singles where Hois won her fourth Big Ten Conference match of the season. Hois defeated Paloma Escobedo, 7-5, 6-1 in straight-sets.
Trgovich lost her match at No. 2 singles to Haviland, as the Buckeye grabbed a two-set victory, 6-2, 6-4.
Ohio State also won the No. 3 singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory by Gabby Steele over freshman Nicky Stracar.
Despite their doubles victory, Berner and Seyferth both dropped their singles matches. Berner fell in straight-sets, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) to Kara Cecil at No. 4 singles, and Seyferth lost a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Fidan Manashirova at No. 5 singles.
Junior Aleksandra Markovic's winning streak came to a halt as she lost her first Big Ten match in her last three outings, falling to Hubbs at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Wisconsin continues league play on the road at Penn State on Sunday at 10 a.m. (CT).
