MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin softball team closed out its 2011 season in May by sweeping Ohio State in a pair of games on the final weekend of play. As the Badgers outscored the Buckeyes, 19-3, in the two-game series, the team drew inspiration from a young fan who was with the team at their final practice.
Isaiah Darden is a 7-year old boy from Madison who is suffering from sickle cell anemia. Through the UW Hospital and the Wish Upon a Badger campaign, he got to spend an afternoon with the Wisconsin softball team. Isaiah, wearing a jersey the team gave to him, took some batting practice on that afternoon before getting a tour of Goodman Diamond, including the locker room and the team lounge.
After listening to the team's pep talk, Isaiah went back out on to the field to get some warm up tosses in to prepare for throwing out the first pitch at Friday night's game against Ohio State.
