Weekend in review
The team went 1-2 this past weekend, falling to UIC and Heartland, but winning against Loyola, 3-2.
Junior Meghan McIntosh pitched all seven innings in the win against Loyola, while Junior Whitney Massey led the Badgers offense with a homerun. Sophomore Mary Massei also had a double in the game.
In a tough loss against Heartland, the Badgers’ offense couldn’t seem to find a groove. UW left six runners on base, while the defense behind freshman pitcher Amanda Oberc only gave up one run on the game.
The game against UIC was an offensive battle, as the teams combined to score 22 runs. Massei had two triples in the game, while sophomore Michelle Mueller and junior Molly Spence each doubled. Sophomore Amanda Najdek and Oberc teamed up in the pitcher’s circle UW. The Badgers tried to rally back in the 7th inning with three runs, but couldn’t overcome UIC in a 13-9 loss.
Head coach Healy
Yvette Healy is in her second season in 2011-12 as head softball coach at Wisconsin. In her first season at the helm of the program, Healy led the Badgers to 30 wins for just the sixth time in school history.
Of the Badgers' 30 victories in Healy's first season, 15 were comeback wins. Wisconsin also won all 21 games in which it outhit opponents, something no other team in school history had done.
Healy came to Wisconsin from Loyola (IL) where she was the 2007 Horizon League Coach of the Year. Healy earned her bachelor's degree in communication from DePaul in 1999 and her master's in secondary education and English from DePaul in 2007.
