CEDAR FALLS, IOWA-- Despite earning four individual victories, Wisconsin could not overcome a strong Northern Iowa lineup Friday night, falling 25-15 to the Panthers on the road in Cedar Falls.

Northern Iowa (4-3, 2-0 WWC) put together two tech falls, three major decisions and a regular decision to hand the Badgers (5-4, 0-2 Big Ten) their third-straight dual loss.
The Panthers opened the dual with three victories before the Badgers were able to get on the scoreboard.
Both of the Badgers’ ranked wrestlers, No. 9 redshirt junior Cole Schmitt (149 lbs.) and No. 14 senior Ben Jordan (165 lbs.), earned victories by decision. Schmitt defeated Clay Welter by a 3-0 decision after recording a takedown in the first period and an escape in the second, while Jordan shutout Riley Branch, 6-0, scoring two takedowns, an escape and riding time.
At 174 lbs., redshirt freshman Frank Cousins scored his team-high third fall of the season against Onni Prestidge. The pin came at 1:10 and is the UW’s second fastest of the season.
Redshirt sophomore Jackson Hein won his match by an 8-3 decision over Taylor Kettman at 197 lbs. Hein scored three takedowns, an escape and riding time in his seventh win of the season.
Northern Iowa began the dual with two-straight tech falls at 125 and 133 lbs. At 125, freshman Austin Hietpas lost to Cruse Aarhus by a 17-2 tech fall, and Shane McQaude lost by the same score to No. 12 Joe Colon at 133 lbs.
The Panthers won their third match at 141 lbs., when Levi Wolfensperger defeated redshirt freshman Thomas Glenn by a 9-0 major decision. Wolfensperger’s victory gave Northern Iowa a 14-0 lead in the dual.
Schmitt’s 3-0 decision over Welter earned Wisconsin its first points of the dual, cutting Northern Iowa’s lead to 14-3.
At 157 lbs., redshirt sophomore Shawn Perry fell to David Bonin by an 11-3 decision. Perry scored three escapes in the bout, which gave the Panthers an 18-3 overall dual lead entering Jordan’s match.
Jordan’s decision brought the Badgers within six points of Northern Iowa, 18-12, heading into the 184 lbs. match.
At 184, No. 6 Ryan Loder extended the Panthers’ lead to 22-12 with a 16-2 major decision against redshirt freshman Timmy McCall. McCall’s only points of the bout came by a takedown in the second period.
Hein’s victory at 194 lbs. gave the Badgers 15 points, but the decision put the dual out of reach for Wisconsin as the Panthers’ owned a seven point advantage heading into the final match.
In the final match of the evening, Blayne Beale defeated redshirt sophomore Cole Tobin by a 5-2 decision at heavyweight. After a scoreless first period, Beale scored a reversal after starting the second period in the down position. Tobin scored one escape and was awarded a point for a penalty Beale committed in the final period.
The Badgers return to Madison to face No. 4 Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the UW Field House. The match will be streamed online on UWBadgers.com
