Final Stats
MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 70 Wisconsin women's tennis team endured its first road loss of the season on Sunday, falling 7-0 to No. 42 Utah at the Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Badgers are now 6-2 overall, while the Utes are 4-2. It was the fourth straight shutout recorded by Utah.
At No. 1 doubles, the duo of junior Hannah Berner and senior Alaina Trgovich captured Wisconsin's only win of the day. Berner and Trgovich recorded an 8-6 win over Anastasia Putilina and Callie Craig.
Sophomore Nicky Stracar and freshman Nova Patel suffered an 8-6 loss to Sarah Pham and Lucia Kovarcikova at the No. 2 position.
Pairing up at No. 3, seniors Aleksandra Markovic and Angela Chupa lost to Danielle Flores and Natasha Smith, 8-2.
At No. 3 singles, Trgovich was the only Badger to take a set during the day. After winning the second set, the senior came up short in a tiebreak for the match, falling to Craig, 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.
Stracar was defeated in straight sets at No. 1 by 69th-ranked Putilina, 6-3, 6-4.
Berner was held to just two games at court two, falling to another ranked Ute, No. 104 Pham, 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 4, freshman Sarah Loebel dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Flores.
Patel suffered her first singles defeat at Wisconsin with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Kovarcikova at the No. 5 position.
On court six, Natasha Smith beat Markovic, 6-3, 6-2.
UW plays the last of its three-game road stretch next Sunday, Feb. 26 at Marquette. Match time is set for 10 a.m. in Milwaukee.
