COLUMBUS, Ohio - Despite a school-record 12 3-pointers, the Wisconsin women’s basketball team fell at No. 10 Ohio State, 72-58, on Monday night at Value City Arena. The Badgers struggled with ball control, turning the ball over 22 times, and also couldn’t match a career performance from the Buckeyes’ All-Big Ten pick, point guard Samantha Prahalis.

Wisconsin shot 12-of-24 (50 percent) from 3-point range, breaking the previous record of 11 treys set in seven different games, including three games earlier this season. The Badgers struggled inside the arc, making just 11-of-34 2-point field goal attempts and shooting 23-of-58 (39.7 percent) from the field for the game.
UW trailed by 10 points at the half and Ohio State upped its lead to 47-34 with 16:33 to play off a Prahalis jumper. The Badgers refused to fold, using a 12-2 run, including five points from Taylor Wurtz, to pull within three (49-46) with 12:03 left in the game.
UW kept the Ohio State lead under 10 points for nearly five minutes, until Prahalis scored again with 7:32 remaining, putting the Buckeyes up 60-49. OSU outscored Wisconsin 23-12 over the last 12 minutes to win its 20th straight over the Badgers.
Ohio State jumped on UW early, scoring the first eight points of the game, six of them from Prahalis. Wisconsin didn’t get on the board until 15:46 when Wurtz hit a jumper. The Badgers then hit three straight 3-pointers to tie the game at 11-11 with 13:23 to play in the half.
Prahalis continued her outstanding play in the first half, scoring 16 of OSU’s 27 points as the Buckeyes went on a 16-2 run to take a 12-point lead (27-13) with 7:10 left in the period. The Badgers went on a 7-0 run, pulling within seven (27-20) at 4:29. Wisconsin came within six at 29-23 off a Wurtz 3-pointer but Ohio State would take advantage of 10 UW turnovers to lead 35-25 at the half.
Wurtz led the Badgers with 20 points, making four 3-pointers, while Morgan Paige also added four treys, scoring 14 points. Jade Davis finished in double figures with 11 points, making three 3-pointers. Jacki Gulczynski, who earned her first career start in place Anya Covington, added the remaining 3-pointer.
Prahalis, the Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year, scored a career-high 34 points, hitting 12-of-18 from the field. Tayler Hill added 18 points as the only two Buckeyes in double figures. OSU shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field, including 6-of-12 (50 percent) from 3-point range.
Ohio State took advantage of 16 Badger fouls, shooting 12-of-17 (70.6 percent) from the free throw line while Wisconsin was just 0-for-1 from the line, setting school records for fewest makes, fewest attempts and lowest percentage. The Buckeyes were called for just six team fouls.
The Buckeyes outrebounded Wisconsin 36-32, with both teams recording 15 offensive rebounds. The Badgers dished off 12 assists, led by a career-high seven from Wurtz. OSU blocked 12 UW shots also stole the ball eight times.
Ohio State dominated the Badgers in the paint, doubling up the UW in points 32-16. The Buckeyes scored 29 points off turnovers and 14 point second-chance points.
Wisconsin continues its two-game road trip against ranked teams, traveling to No. 18 Penn State on Thursday. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center.
