MADISON, Wis. -- The No. 24 Wisconsin men's track and field team stuck to the formula again on Saturday and wrapped up competition at the Stanford Invitational with more strong finishes behind personal-best outings.

The Badgers again displayed career-best showings during day two of competition in Palo Alto, Calif., two coming from Japheth Cato alone.

After qualifying Friday for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time, Cato topped himself again on Saturday, crossing the finish line in a personal-best 14.04 seconds to earn a runner-up finish.

Republic of Haiti runner Dominique DeGrammont edged out Cato for the win, finishing in 13.94 seconds.

Adum Gross also ran in the 110 hurdles for UW, finishing fifth with his time of 14.59 seconds.

Winning the long jump Friday behind a personal-best leap, Cato had another lifetime-best in him for the pole vault.

The sophomore cleared a personal-best height of 17 feet, 2 3/4 inches and finished fourth. The effort ranks Cato No. 5 all-time in the event for the Badgers.

Unattached athlete Levi Keller won the event with his vault of 17-10 1/2.

Mickey DeFilippo also competed in the event for UW, finishing sixth with a mark of 16-8 3/4. Competing in his first meet of the season, Zach Ziemek took eighth in the event with the same vault.

In the 200 meters, senior Kyle Jefferson raced to an 11th-place finish with his time of 21.71 seconds. Diondre Batson of American River won the event, crossing the finish line in 20.89 seconds.

Three others finished in the top 20 of the event, with Brady Hammon coming in 16th with a time of 21.92 seconds, Matt Kerswill clocking in at a personal-best time of 21.99 seconds for 18th place and Garret Payne placing 20th in 22.08 seconds.

Badgers combined to form a trio of teams for relay action, with one Wisconsin team competing in the 4x100-meter relay and two others taking part in the 4x400 relay.

The lone Wisconsin team in the 4x100 earned a third-place finish with its combined efforts and finished in 40.79 seconds. Host team Stanford won the event, edging out American River and Wisconsin by finishing in 40.75 seconds.

In the 4x400, the Wisconsin `A' team took fourth in a time of 3 minutes, 10.74 seconds, while the Wisconsin `B' team finished ninth in 3:17.07. Notre Dame earned the win in the event, pacing to a winning time of 3:08.82.

Wisconsin will remain on the road next weekend, when the Badgers head to Oxford, Miss., to compete April 14 in the Mississippi Open.
