LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ.-- The No. 19 Wisconsin wrestling program visited Rider for their second dual of the season. The Broncs won by first takedown criteria to defeat the Badgers on Thursday night.
Each team won five matches, but Rider came out with the lead and a 20-19 victory at home. This was only the second match to come down to first takedown criteria since the rule was made four years ago
Rider’s senior Chuck Zeisloft upset No. 19 Rylan Lubeck in the 141 lbs. weight class. After a 1-1 tie in the third period, Zeisloft won with a takedown in overtime.
TJ Ruschell fell to BJ Clagon at 149 lbs. in a 12-3 major decision. In another overtime, Seth Liegel lost 4-2 to Rider’s Chad Walsh.
No. 4 Isaac Jordan beat Andrew Reca in the first period with his second pin of the season at 2:27 earning Wisconsin its first six team points. Next, at 174 lbs., Frank Cousins went into the third overtime of the night after a 5-5 tie in the third period, and defeated Ryan Wolfe in a 7-5 decision gaining another three points for the Badgers.
Ricky Robertson met up with Clint Morrison at 184 lbs. Robertson led the entire match and was victorious with a final score of 6-4. At 197 lbs., No. 13 Timmy McCall took on Donald McNeil. After no points in the first period and a 2-0 lead in the second, McCall won in a 3-2 decision.
No. 10 heavyweight Connor Medbery had a 4-2 lead over Greg Velasco in the first and second periods, but blew past him in the third with a final score of 15-4 for four points for Wisconsin.
Wisconsin forfeited to JR Wert at 125 lbs. In the final match, Ryan Taylor met Rob Deutsch at 133 lbs., who walked away with a 6-3 decision.
The Badgers will be in action again all day Saturday at the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Maryland.
