MADISON, Wis.-- Former Badger Taylor Wurtz, who became the 22nd player in UW history to score 1,000 points, is continuing her basketball career overseas in Europe.
The 6-0 guard is a starter for Sparta in Luxembourg. The Brandon, Wisconsin, native is averaging the most points (27.3), most rebounds (12.6), most steals (2.6) and most minutes (38.3) on her squad.
In her time as a Badger, Wurtz ranks 16th all-time with 1,367 points, third in 3-pointers made (206), third in 3-point attempts (605), seventh in rebounds (793), third in games played (126), and tied for eighth in career double-doubles (17).
Wurtz recently wrote a letter to tell the Badger fans what she's been up to.
I am currently playing in Luxembourg for a team called Sparta. I have been here since October.
The biggest cultural differences are the languages. My teammates speak either French, German, or Luxembourgish. My coach is actually from Italy so he speaks Italian.
I can say bonjour and au revoir (hello and goodbye), so needless to say, I haven't mastered any of the languages.
The biggest thing I miss about college basketball would be my teammates. Especially, our games such as "garbage" and "mannequins"... which Cassie was clearly the best at. I also miss coach Alysiah's scout and her clever names she came up for us.
I have to say I miss the food in America. A Nitty Burger sounds so delicious right now!
The basketball here is very fast. There are hardly any timeouts and very up-tempo.
Wisconsin taught me to give 100 percent in whatever I do. That will define my success on and off the court. I am blessed to have this opportunity to play basketball professionally and would not be here without the education, support and love, I received from playing basketball at the University of Wisconsin.
Au revoir. Go Badgers!
Love, Taylor
