Three-time All-Big Ten selections joins Badgers
MADISON, Wis. -- Andie Varsho, a three-time All-Big Ten and All-Midwest selection, has returned to her former conference and has joined the Wisconsin softball program as a volunteer assistant coach.
"We are thrilled to welcome Wisconsin native Andie Varsho to the Badgers softball coaching staff," Wisconsin head coach Yvette Healy said. "Andie is one of the most famous, and highly decorated softball players to come out of the state of Wisconsin. She was an All-Big Ten athlete at Purdue before playing in the NPF, professional fast pitch league."
The Boilermaker standout set the career record for hits at Purdue in 2014 while setting the season record for the school's longest hitting streak at 22 games from March 1 to April 5, 2014. She tied Purdue's game records for hits, doubles, stolen bases and runs. She ended her college career as one of the most decorated players in school history and ranked among the career top five in nine different categories.
As a senior, Varsho led the team with a .416 average and 45 runs, including eight game-winners, and 22 extra-base hits.
She saw just as much success off the field after being honored as a two-time first-team Academic All-American and three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection.
Varsho spent one year playing professionally with the Pennsylvania Rebellion. The Chili, Wisconsin, native spent the past year as a graduate assistant at Auburn University in the compliance department.
"Andie brings a wealth of experience from both her playing experience and work experience at Auburn. Coach Varsho's competitive spirit will certainly be an asset," Healy added.
