MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's golf team will compete in its second tournament of the season outside the Midwest, Oct. 19-20, as the Badgers travel to Louisville, Kentucky, for the Cardinal Cup.
UW began the year in South Carolina before hosting the Badger Invitational and playing in the Windy City Collegiate Championship in Wilmette, Illinois.
Louisville—ranked 20th in Golfweek's top 25—hosts the Cardinal Cup at its par-72 University golf course.
The Badgers' squad for the tournament includes Michelle Cheung, Gabby Curtis, Brooke Ferrell, Nat Zeng and Becky Klongland. Tess Hackworthy will also join the tournament as an individual competitor.
Cheung was Wisconsin's top golfer at the Windy City Collegiate Championship, as the junior was even par and tied for 25th which marked her second top-25 finish of the year. She picked up a season-low 18-hole score of 70 in Round 1 and ended the competition with new 36- (145) and 54-hole (216) career-lows.
Curtis narrowly beats out Cheung (74.75) for the best 18-hole average on the team with 74.38 strokes per round. Among players that have taken part in more than two rounds this season, Curtis owns the best score in relation to par, as she is 19-over in eight rounds—three strokes better than Cheung. Additionally, the sophomore earned the best finish on the team in 2015-16, as she placed tied for ninth through the stroke play rounds at the East-West Match Play Challenge, which also tied a career-best.
After a slow start at the season-opening tournament, Ferrell turned it on, improving in each event that followed. She was 70th at the Cougar Classic prior to being tied for 37th at the East-West Match Play Challenge and tied for 28th at the Windy City Collegiate Championship. Ferrell posts the third-best 18-hole average at 75.25 strokes per round.
